How to iron: tips to do it well and quickly

How to iron perfectly and effortlessly

For some, ironing is a true art form. For others, it is one of the most demanding household chores, seemingly requiring a large investment of time and energy. Whatever our philosophy, there are several tricks to follow for simple and fast ironing, so you always have tidy clothes that are easy to fold and store. Let's discover together how to iron properly thanks to Ariete's advice, and what are the right tools that can save us effort; for an always impeccable result, worthy of a true home professional.

How to iron well and fast

Before understanding how to iron every type of garment and fabric to perfection and in the shortest possible time, it is good to go over some preliminary tips for smoother ironing with satisfactory results. First of all, it is appropriate to choose the type of iron best suited to our needs. To decide whether we need a classic iron or a more complex one with a steam generator boiler, we must consider how much we want to spend, the space available for storage, and above all our habits.

Once the most suitable iron has been chosen, to iron fast and save precious time, it is a good habit to choose a short wash cycle and possibly at low temperatures - therefore between 30 and 40 degrees, compatible with what is reported on the label - without inserting too many clothes or raising the spin speed too much, to prevent our clothes from wrinkling excessively. Similarly, we should avoid leaving clothes in the drum for too long once the wash cycle is finished, paying maximum attention when hanging them out.

Among the ironing tips, both for beginners and experts, we certainly cannot forget to adjust the ironing board according to our height, so we can move our arm comfortably. Furthermore, for effortless ironing of any type of fabric, we should proceed when the clothes are still slightly damp, avoiding circular movements and lingering too long on buttons and seams; we should also avoid ironing over stains - they could become permanent - trying to always pass the iron from the inside towards the outside of the garment. Finally, for the most delicate items, remember to iron strictly inside out.

Ironing a shirt the right way

Shirts are without a doubt some of the most difficult and delicate garments to iron impeccably. With a little practice, and with the most suitable iron, we will succeed in the enterprise without too much difficulty. To start off on the right foot, place the shirt on a hanger and, once still slightly damp, place it on the board. Then start ironing the collar, starting from the tips and ending with the inside, move to the shoulders and subsequently the sleeves, ironing the center first and then the ends. Finally, we can proceed with the cuffs, remembering to keep the buttons facing upwards, and with the entire body of the shirt, both from the back and front side.

How to iron fitted sheets and curtains

If we want to learn how to iron, even fitted sheets and curtains deserve some attention. In the first case, start by folding them already during the drying phase to make it easier later and, when just damp, place them on the board by inserting the corner into the tip of the board and pulling the fabric with your hand. Now we can turn the corners inwards and start ironing the portion of fabric present between one corner and another, moving slowly. In the end, fold everything giving it the shape of a rectangle, repeating the operation until the ironing satisfies us. For curtains, instead, they must first be carefully folded after drying, and then armed with a steam iron, iron them a little at a time and always proceeding in the same direction. Careful though, it is advisable to place a damp cloth between the curtains and the iron, to prevent burning the most precious fabrics.
