American coffee: recipe and tips

American coffee: how to make it the right way

Italy is notoriously the home of the espresso: we are used to starting the day or taking a break with a strong and creamy coffee, with an intense and decisive flavor. And yet, even here, the so-called American coffee is becoming more and more widespread, which is more aromatic and lighter than the traditional one. A drink that has been decidedly re-evaluated compared to the past, partly because it is the current trend, partly because of its captivating taste, to be alternated with our classic small cup. It therefore seems appropriate to understand how to make American coffee at home, especially with the machines specifically created for a state-of-the-art drip coffee. Just like those found in the Ariete catalog, which has always been looking for new solutions to satisfy even the most demanding palates.

American coffee: how to make it

If you are also wondering how to make American coffee, know that the answer is not as obvious as it may seem. Many, in fact, believe that the preparation of filtered coffee involves the moka pot, simply lengthening a normal espresso with hot water. Nothing could be more wrong, considering that American coffee is obtained by infusion and not by emulsion, making its preparation more similar to that of tea. Precisely for this reason, in our country it is considered by many to be a "watered-down swill", which has nothing to do with the biting flavor of an espresso. A false myth that must absolutely be debunked, keeping in mind that the preparation is very different from that of traditional coffee: in fact, the technique, the blend and the degree of roasting of the same change.

On the other hand, American coffee is by definition a long coffee, so much so that it is typically served in a mug, which is a particularly large cup. Its languid and delicate flavor is perfect to be consumed also "on the go", perhaps while we are going to work, proposing itself as a highly energetic drink to be sipped while still scalding hot during the coldest periods of the year and to fill up on energy to face the day in the best way. Not only that, contrary to what one might think, American filtered coffee does not have a high calorie content. With its 2 kcal per 100 ml of drink, it can be considered on par with a normal espresso, although one tends to pour more sugar due to the large size of the cup. We can also add a drop of cream to give it a little more creaminess!

The recipe for a perfect American coffee

As we already mentioned, American coffee should not be prepared with the same blend that is used for espresso coffee. To prepare a tasty mug filled with coffee worthy of a yankee, it is therefore preferable to have a more coarsely ground blend, obtained by grinding the beans of the best Arabica, lighter and more fragrant than Robusta. Another fundamental element for a perfect American coffee recipe is water. According to the Stars and Stripes tradition, it is better to opt for bottled water and not tap water, to prevent an excessively high concentration of chlorine from making the drink acidic and unpleasant. Not only that, it is also appropriate that the water temperature is around 93-94 degrees: water that is too boiling could alter the bouquet of aromas present in the bean. Moving on to the dosage, the correct one provides for about 5-7 grams of coffee per 100 ml of water.

American coffee machine: how it works

At this point, one wonders how to make American coffee comfortably at home, as good as the one you can sip in the best diners in the United States. The most valuable answer to this need is given by the American coffee machines, present in the wide range of small appliances from the Ariete stable. And which allow you to enjoy a long, hot and tasty drip coffee prepared in a workmanlike manner. A larger pod is then used than the ESE ones, with the perfect quantity and blend of Arabica and Robusta already inside, or even better by inserting fresh grounds directly into the machine's filter.

To prepare a coffee with a balanced flavor with a simple touch, just add the water. This will slowly pass through the coffee powder and, thanks to the filtration process, will extract all the taste and aroma from the ground beans that many of us know and appreciate. Ariete's American coffee machines, with their inimitable shabby chic design and retro lines, are capable of dispensing 4 to 12 cups of boiling "black" at the same time, with the possibility of programming the coffee dispensing time up to 24 hours in advance. Furthermore, the coffee will remain hot for 30 minutes, so you can enjoy it at your leisure. The filter is completely removable, so that it can be easily filled and washed directly under running water. In short, it is the perfect meeting point between made in Italy design, practicality and simplicity of use, with which to treat yourself to a warm, relaxing cuddle.
